about

This series of graffiti pieces shocked and challenged me, and so I felt like that's what I needed to do here. I feel like there's no way I can make everyone happy in this piece...the metonymies are dehumanizing before they're turned around, the catchiness masks a lot, the feminism will be opposed to the worldview of many, and most of my fans won't like the F-bomb (I only bleeped it because I thought I might get censored on youtube). However, since the male gaze so often objectifies women and subjects their images to sexual advances against their will and without any relationship (i.e., fucks them), I feel the word is the only appropriate word in this case, and perhaps something that, as a man, I can say in a way a woman can't, and hopefully that's empowering. That's really my hope for this song, especially living in a culture where a lot of girls are taught to be voiceless, docile, and submit. (I.e., the culture of planet earth)

lyrics

Cat call a cat
Boy what you looking at?
Your sister's an ass
Or at least that's all you see
Oh ladies, ladies
Please be more than your metonymies

Painted face?
Lashing eyes?
Chasing skirts?
A smooth leg?
Two plump coconuts?
A shadow behind a man?
I know you're so much more than these
A helper?
A supporting character?
Oh paper dolls
And runway queens
You were made
For so much more
Than being beheld

//You are whole
You are woman
And you don't need me to tell you so//
That's just something you should know

You were made to shout
You were made to sing
You were made to change the world
You were made to lead
You were made to fight
You were made to compete
Basically, although the world's not your story
The actor is you
This is your stage

And F*CK the male gaze
You do you
